Undergraduate Scholarship
 The Department of Physics at Montana State University-Bozeman is soliciting applications for Undergraduate Scholarships, including the Patton L. Seifert Memorial Scholarships from students majoring in physics. Departmental scholarships are competitive and awarded annually by the department to qualified students. The award provides a stipend of $1000 per semester and is renewable for up to eight semesters (four years), contingent upon availability of funds and provided the recipient continues to major in Physics, and maintains at least a 3.0 GPA overall and 3.5 GPA in Physics. Recipients will be selected on the basis of the quality of their academic record, and a short statement of interests and goals.
We seek applicants who are excited by physics and who are seriously committed to majoring in physics. We particularly wish to encourage women to consider physics as a career; the opportunities are great.
Our undergraduate program for majors offers excellent opportunities that we want you to know about. We have 28 faculty members and 80 majors, so students can count on having outstanding contact with faculty in and out of class. Our department has major research programs in solar physics, astrophysics, general relativity, condensed matter physics and nanotechnology, and laser optics. All of our students can become involved in exciting research projects on the frontiers of physics, whether it involves manipulation of individual atoms or building a new type of solar telescope to be launched by NASA on a sounding rocket.
