2005

  • Professor Aleks Rebane, together with Charles Spangler (Chemistry) and Eric Nickel, has been granted a U.S. Patent for the development of porphyrins with enhanced multi-photon absorption cross-sections for photodynamic therapy. (12/05)

  • Henry (Trae) Winter has been awarded not one, but TWO "Outstanding Student Paper Awards" for his presentations at the May 2005 American Geophysical Union meeting. Trae's presentations were:
"Improving Flare Simulations by Combining Hydrodynamics Modeling with Stochastic Particle Transport" and "Education & Public Outreach in Montana, Supporting the Solar Dynamics Observatory" 07/05

  • A recent Physical Review Letter published by the condensed matter physics group at MSU describes a new method for analyzing continuous phase transitions. This method was able to solve a decade-long controversy as to the nature of the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition of an important compound known to exhibit colossal magnetoresistance.
