Title:
"Clickers in the Classroom"
Abstract:
Personal Response Systems - clickers - allow instructors to sample the
thinking of their students without the risk of the students embarrassing
themselves in front of their classmates. Clickers are 12-key remote
controls that communicate with the classroom computer via infrared
signals. Interactive slides are inserted into PowerPoint presentations to
elicit student responses to questions. The responses can be displayed in a
variety of graphical forms. The use of clickers in the classroom increases
student attendance, promotes active learning in class, provides students
with opportunities to test their understanding, and allows instructors to
modify the presentations to match their students' understanding. Attendees
will use clickers in this interactive colloquium.
