Title:
"The Solar Dynamics Observatory: Science Goals and Technology
Development"
Abstract:
SDO, the Solar Dynamics Observatory, is the first space
weather research mission in NASA's Living with a Star Program,
and the main solar physics mission for the coming decade and a
half.
I will discuss SDO's motivation, its broad and ambitious
science goals, some of the advanced technology of its
instruments and data processing, SDO's history and heritage in
the SoHO and TRACE missions, its Education and Public Outreach
plans, and the signifant role that MSU will play in the SDO
project. The anticipated science will be amply illustrated by
movies and images from current predecessor instruments on SoHO,
TRACE, and Yohkoh.
