Present: Pres. Cruzado, Provost Fedock, Marvin Lanswerk, John Neumeier

Merit Pay Distribution

A task force is being formed with the membership as follows: Joe Fedock, Paula Lutz (Dean CLS), John Sherwood (Dept. Head Ag), Marvin Lanswerk, and John Neumeier. Leslie Taylor will be called in for council.

The task force will meet early during the week of Nov. 1.

Marvin spoke with Sandy Osbourne (AFMSU) to ask her opinion on how merit pay should be given out. She indicated that it should be done as in previous years. We discussed what this meant, which seems somewhat unclear at the moment. We will be seeking input at FS on Wed. 10/27/2010.

Marvin stressed that MSU admin must seek approval from the Regents and OCHE before giving out merit pay. The president agreed that this was important, and as Marvin suggested, she will try to clarify this soon.

Performance-Based Funding

There is a Nov. 12 meeting in Helena at OCHE between faculty senate chairs and OCHE staff. Not clear if Regents will attend. We discussed what funding model might be appropriate. The President suggested a small "slice" something like a few percent that would be tied to PBF initiatives. Also, she thought tying this to 2-3 specific goals would be good.

Administrative Reviews

FS and the President's office will pool resources to do the reviews this year. She would like to discuss the instruments used in the online evaluation processes. The president noted that the questions should be "formative".

Tenure at Hire

We will discuss this at the next leadership meeting with Leslie Taylor.

University Ombudsman

Nancy Dodd, the current Ombudsman, will be retiring. The president encouraged us to discuss how to appoint the successor at a future meeting. This would be similar to the policy we are developing for the Athletics Representative and it might apply to the Family Advocate as well.
