A mass bobbing on a spring and a spot on a rotating wheel are both shown to be examples of simple harmonic motion.
The RPM of the wheel can be adjusted to match the period of the mass on the spring.
A sideways view can be shadow projected onto a screen to make the effect more obvious.
(clamp rotator to table)
(use clamping stand for mass and spring)
(use OHP to shadow project)
RPM can be varied with speed control knob.
(with 100 g mass and 5 cm spring, set speed to ~280 RPM)
(explain function of RPM/rev button)
